Brooklyn-based artist Drea Cofield paints in the boundaries between inner subjectivity and external realities, exploring mutual desires to look, to be seen, and to find meaning and connection within greater contexts. Working from observation is key to her understanding of color, form, speed and touch, and human presence both explicit and implied. Her Send Me Your Selfie Project paintings play with the banal disposability of digital self-imaging, juxtaposing it with the permanent, time-based, fluid forms of paint and touch that emphasize the core desire that remains deeply human: to look and to be seen.
