Sarah Gormley Gallery is proud to present Sydney Beach Zester's debut gallery exhibition, Gobsmacked.

Sydney Beach Zester's work uses antique, utilitarian textiles—historically, predominantly used by women inside the home—transforming them to serve an exclusively aesthetic purpose, by binding, stitching and stretching the material. This tension, both physical and emotional, inherently calls into question the binary and explores contrasting emotions. Sydney began working with textiles over 20 years ago as she trained under a master seamstress. Her work has been shown in Los Angeles, CA, Palm Springs, CA, Washington, D.C., Palo Alto, CA, and Atlanta, GA.

Gobsmack references the time right before the head shuts off and the body takes over. An exploration of overwhelm that triggers muscle memory and pulls at the sliver of space between adrenaline and anxiety. The product of this shift often surpasses what a person believes is possible, allowing them to momentarily tap into a transcendent space.
