Seattle artist Amy Pleasant’s first exhibition at SGG explores the nostalgia of family moments, matriarchs, spaces and neighborhoods from life in Ohio, where she was born and raised. Inspired by real photos, the paintings in Family Album reflect the significant roles of the women in her family and examine the generational transitions of identity, as well as the importance of place. Her distincitive layers of vibrant color invite viewers to contemplate the mysterious beauty of memory and create their own narratives about the stories contained within.
